SimWorks releases SimWorks Finite Difference Solutions version 3.9.0

Published Date: 2026-10-29 18:08:43

Dear users:
Thank you all for your attention and support to the SimWorks software. To further optimize the user experience and enhance the simulation quality, this software has been updated to version 3.8.0. The key update contents this time are:

New Graphical Interface for the STACK Solver

STACK is a solver based on the analytic transfer matrix method (TMM) that requires no meshing and can quickly compute the reflection, transmission, internal electromagnetic field distribution, and dipole radiation characteristics of planar multilayer thin-film structures; it is particularly suitable for the design and optimization of multilayer optoelectronic devices such as OLEDs and LEDs.

The new interface empowers an efficient workflow: users can configure layers, materials, and frequency parameters directly here, and seamlessly continue to the RT, Field, Dipole, and Purcell pages to complete various computations.

RCWA Solver Enhancements

Further enhancements to the RCWA solver include support for solving diagonal anisotropic materials, extending the modeling and simulation capabilities of RCWA for periodic structures made of anisotropic materials (such as crystals, liquid crystals, and anisotropic metasurfaces). Key updates include:

  • Add support for diagonal anisotropic materials Diagonal anisotropic materials can be used for solving in RCWA simulations, extending the modeling and simulation capabilities for periodic structures made of anisotropic materials.
  • Add optimizations and sweeps Users can perform parameter sweeps and optimizations with the RCWA solver in the Optimizations and Sweeps window, effectively shortening the design iteration cycle for periodic structures such as gratings, metasurfaces, and photonic crystals.

  • Add Use Wavelength Spacing Allows the solved wavelength band to be divided at equal wavelength intervals. By default, data points are recorded at equal frequency intervals; after selecting this option, simulation frequency points can be set at equal wavelength intervals.
  • Add Use LI Factorization Available only when Simulation Region is set to 2D. Selecting it helps accelerate simulation convergence, and the effect is more noticeable for structures with high refractive index contrast (such as metal-dielectric).

New Cloud Computing License Module in Workbench

SimWorks Cloud Workbench adds a cloud computing license module, providing authorization capabilities ranging from the definition and issuance of cloud computing licenses and validity/usage management to simulation occupancy/release and feature authorization verification. Users can view the license name, type, validity period, and the following three authorizations and remaining quotas in the personal center:

  • Solver features: authorizes FDFD, FDTD CPU, FDTD GPU, Mode Solver 1d, Mode Solver 2d, Sweep, Jobs, FDCharge, EME, and RCWA. Simulations of a feature that is not enabled cannot be submitted.
  • Computing quota: authorizes CPU cores and GPU SMs. The quota is occupied while a task runs and released automatically when the task finishes, fails, is canceled, or is terminated.
  • Available resources: specific resources can be limited, or all elastic resources or free resources can be authorized.

When an account holds multiple licenses, the quotas are summed, and the enabled features and available instances are merged to determine whether a simulation task can be submitted. A license is usable within its validity period; it cannot be used for new computations before the start time, after expiration, or when it is disabled.
